Abstract
We review the formalism of the standard model of electroweak and strong interactions, as well as possible extensions to grand unified theories. Topics include: Electronuclear gauge theory, quantum chromodynamics, electroweak currents, electroweak Lagrangian, symmetry breaking and masses, effective phenomenology; Quark-lepton unification, SU(5) grand unification, symmetry breaking and baryon number, low-energy phenomenology; Alternative grand unifcation, generalized unitary scheme, classical alternatives, supersymmetric exceptional unification.
